Natural opal contains water. Keep away from heat, harsh chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth.

Plump, softly rounded, and clearly half-translucent — the body reads like a spoonful of orange jelly set in a small glass dish. The orange glows all the way through, not thick like jam but light like something you could see your fingers through if you held it up. Vivid green fire moves beneath the surface, caught inside the stone the way flecks of peel get suspended in a good jelly. One-of-a-kind. October birthstone.

The whole appeal was that it held its shape and also, barely, didn’t.
