fleur-de-lis carved directly into natural shell — not applied, not painted, but cut into the surface so that the motif and the material are inseparable. On the white shell, the carving catches the light in shifting silver and pearl, the iridescence moving as you move, the symbol appearing and receding like something seen through water. On the black shell, the same motif reads differently — darker, more atmospheric, the carved relief catching faint abalone undertones of green and blue against a ground so deep it seems to absorb the room. The brass frame around each is engraved with a continuous border of small leaves and flowers, pressing the heraldic center into something more personal, more worn. At 5.8g, both sit lightly — a locket that opens, holds, and says nothing about its contents to anyone who hasn't earned the asking.
THE CHARACTER ARC:
A Crest for the Self-Appointed
The fleur-de-lis has belonged to kings, to cities, to saints, to regiments, to the sides of buildings that have outlasted everyone who commissioned them. It is one of the oldest symbols still in daily use, and it has meant different things to almost everyone who has carried it. Purity. Power. Florence. France. A particular family's claim on a particular piece of land. The right to be taken seriously.
We think its best use is the one it was never officially assigned: as a personal crest, chosen freely, worn by someone who decided she needed one and simply went ahead and chose.
The shell it is carved into is the right material for this. Shell has been used as currency, as cameo ground, as mirror, as offering — it has always been the material that catches other people's light and returns it transformed. White shell gives the fleur-de-lis a luminous, daylight authority. Black shell gives it the quality of a secret kept with perfect composure. Choose the version that matches the energy you carry most often, or the one you are reaching toward. The locket opens either way.
Avoid Water & Chemicals :
Keep all pieces dry and away from water. This is vital for The Renaissance Edit's vintage brass, as it prevents oxidation. Also, avoid perfumes, hairspray, lotions, and harsh cleaning agents; they can dull stones and react with metals.
Proper Storage :
When not worn, store your treasures in a cool, dry place. Keep them out of direct sunlight, ideally in individual soft pouches or a lined jewelry box, to protect their brilliance.
Brass Care :
Vintage brass naturally develops a rich patina over time. For oxidation or spots on Renaissance Edit brass, a gentle polish with a soft cloth will easily restore its warm, golden luster. Embrace this as part of its living history!
