An oval brass locket with a border of flowers and leaves engraved all around the edge, framing a single large cabochon at its center. The vintage glass stone is a muted dusty violet, overlaid with scattered iridescent flashes — small points of blue, green, pink, and gold that catch the light at different moments and from different depths, as though the colour were made of many layers set behind each other. The stone’s base reads as a soft purple haze rather than a solid colour, with the surface smooth and domed but the depth beneath it suggestive of something more diffuse. The brass has the warm tone of aged gold, with each flower and leaf of the engraved border visibly worked by hand. The cabochon’s colour never resolves — look at it and the eye keeps trying to find the edge of the purple, or the center of a flash, and keeps not quite getting there.
THE CHARACTER ARC:
What a Telescope Sees
If you aim a strong enough telescope at a dark patch of sky — one that looks completely empty to the naked eye — you don’t find emptiness. You find nebulae: enormous drifting clouds of dust and gas, lit from within by newborn stars and from behind by older ones. They turn out to be purple and pink and blue in colours our eyes alone can’t catch, with sparks of light embedded in them where the next generation of stars is condensing out of the dark. The point of a nebula is that nothing is finished there — everything is becoming. This stone is that patch of sky. The dusty violet is the gas and dust spread across depths you can’t quite focus on; the scattered iridescent flashes are the small bright things forming inside it — not finished, not fixed, just lit for the moment you happened to look. The engraved brass border holds it like the frame of a photograph taken from a telescope. Wear it when you want to remember that the empty-looking patches of your own life are also full of unfinished things. Open it and place inside whatever is still forming — a half-written letter, the name of something you don’t know what to call yet. Close the clasp, and a small piece of the universe keeps turning on your pulse, mostly dark, occasionally lit.
Avoid Water & Chemicals :
Keep all pieces dry and away from water. This is vital for The Renaissance Edit's vintage brass, as it prevents oxidation. Also, avoid perfumes, hairspray, lotions, and harsh cleaning agents; they can dull stones and react with metals.
Proper Storage :
When not worn, store your treasures in a cool, dry place. Keep them out of direct sunlight, ideally in individual soft pouches or a lined jewelry box, to protect their brilliance.
Brass Care :
Vintage brass naturally develops a rich patina over time. For oxidation or spots on Renaissance Edit brass, a gentle polish with a soft cloth will easily restore its warm, golden luster. Embrace this as part of its living history!
