A gloved hand rises from the bottom of a jet-black marquise of natural agate — fingers extended, wrist delicately turned, each digit caught in that particular gesture Victorian women used to communicate what they were not permitted to say aloud. The hand wears a sculpted lace cuff at the wrist, detailed to its smallest fold, and the fingers are positioned with the deliberate poise of someone reaching for something — or perhaps refusing something — with immaculate composure. The black agate behind it is absolute: no veining, no variation, no cloud. Pure, polished darkness with the depth of a stage before the curtain rises. The gold of the hand against it has the effect of a single spotlight finding the only thing in the room that matters.
