This locket is the companion piece to the Carousel Dream — same round brass case, same engraved floral border, same mother of pearl window — but the mood is entirely different. Where the carousel horse is whimsy, this hummingbird is wilderness. The bird is captured mid-dive, wings swept back, long beak angled downward, every feather line etched with the precision of a Victorian naturalist's field sketch. It swoops across the mother of pearl as if the shell's iridescent surface were a sky — and in a certain light, it is: the pearl shifts from cream to pale blue to the faintest rose, giving the bird an atmosphere to fly through. The engraved border of flowers around the edge completes the illusion — a garden frame for a garden creature. The locket opens to hold two photographs.
